SOPHIE HELSINGER
Portland-based multimedia artist Sophie Helsinger creates work that inhabits the liminal space between the vivid world of remembered childhood and the often darker, complex reality of adult hindsight. With a foundation in painting and anatomical drawing, she re-imagines the rooms, toys, and emotional atmospheres of her earlier years. Moving away from nostalgia, and closing in on a terrain for both inquiry and transformation.

Currently pursuing her BFA at Pacific Northwest College of Art, Helsinger’s practice bridges fine art and design. Her professional work includes album cover designs for musicians Sierra Pia and Oren Major, the conceptual album Neverminding with Anthony Brodeur, as well as art directing and starring in numerous music videos for Ruby Friedman Orchestra’s debut album Chimes After Midnight.

Helsinger grew up with tales from her father's 1990s band "Green Jellö" (Jellÿ after the Kraft lawsuit!!).
Inspired by the mix of chaos, artistry, and humor, Helsinger spins these attributes into her work where "do it yourself" rhetoric meets fine arts.
